Christmas party

Saturday night we went to Bud's work Christmas party at a nearby country club. The fact that it was at a country club was enough for me to be excited. The fact that it started with a cocktail hour that led into a formal dinner, well, that forced me to buy a new shirt and try and act all Sex and the City-like. Since I'm still learning how to balance free alcohol with appropriate behavior, I tried to eat a lot of appetizers. I was nearly chasing the crustini/goat cheese/prime roast waiter around. No, literally. I'd get trapped talking to the millionth person about "what a pet detective actually does" (don't mis-read, I'm flattered when people ask, but by the 10th explanation in one night I'd rather be doing something like, oh I don't know, poking myself in the eye) and look longingly over at that particular tray and its holder. He finally just walked right up behind me and stayed a while. After the cocktail hour we moved to the formal dining room - decorated in the prettiest reds, greens and golds, and had dinner. I'm skating on thin ice here because I have many devoutly Christian friends and family members, but we ended up at the table with the God Squad. No, I know, I'm not criticizing their religious devotion, it just seems like I inevitably end up sitting next to someone who shares the word of Christ in regular conversation. I mean, what are the odds? God really might be trying to tell me something. Dinner was filet mignon and Alaskan Sea Bass (I think?). Dessert was chocolate covered strawberries, lemon squares and gingerbread rolls. After dinner some of us meandered upstairs where there was a piano and wouldn't you know it, someone in the group plays. I love hearing the piano right in front of me. My chest fills up with emotion that I don't quite get because I could listen to piano music on the radio all day and not get that feeling. And we're back, to my feelings, so I'll end it there.
