This hurts my heart

If this hurts your heart (presumably with love and longing), wait until you see some of the pictures and text in this baby book I am reading. The babies are such determined and already defined little people. One little boy loves the attention of his 3-4 year old brother so much, he puts up with anything. At one point, his mother hears the two of them playing and laughing out loud. She peaks in and discovers his older brother Tom "pounding on Louis' head with a plastic baseball bat, making loud cracks. At each whack, Louis winced but roared with laughter, as did Tom." I just cracked up when I read that.

Another passage, more analytical in nature, described behavior that seemed exactly like what Summer described Ella doing. "Many fussing babies will quiet when ...an extremity...is restrained firmly. Swaddling has this effect...interferes with a reflex reaction that is called the Moro reflex. ...remnant of our ape ancestry...the baby...startles, throws out his arms and legs, extends his neck, cries briefly, then rapidly brings his arms together and flexes his body as if to clasp the branch of a tree or his mother as he falls. ...cries, startles, cries...sets up a vicious circle."
