Newishness

I'm all for people trying to get started. Of course I am, hello duh. On that note I had an appointment with a new OB today. No concerns, just a hi I'm new in Birmingham and need a doctor, type visit. Since we'd never met, I was led to her office (not exam room) first. When they say politeness is dead, they are wrong. How nice to meet face to face first rather than face to, well, anyway, we met. Before she came in I sat in her office for about ten minutes. I think this is practically a requirement of doctors, making you wait, to give them the psychological upper hand. As I sat there studying her office I noticed a text book on her desk. Open. With a highlighter next to it. I thought about asking her had she been certified by the national association for gynecologists, or did she realize the textbook she was reading was not used by the majority of OB's? Or how old was she or how could I recommend her to other people when it was clear she was just getting her start? Instead, when she asked what I did I told her straight up, pet detective, and then handed her one of my cards.
