Yesterday
All my troubles seemed so far away...just kidding! You know those days that you think, while they are happening, will be burned into your brain because they are just that good? Yesterday was one of those days. I have a friend at work who owns a little farm about 20 minutes down the road and she and I are always talking about her goats and dogs and the little cabin that she and her husband are living in and fixing up. Bud and I got an early start (impressive since the night before was post-defense night, I'll post a celebration picture too) yesterday and drove out to Monika's place. We saw her goats - 3 kids born this year - and then hiked a short way up the creek where she said there was a pretty big waterfall. The video of that is below. It doesn't do it justice but it makes an attempt since I couldn't keep something that pretty to myself. After splashing around the creek and feeding the goats - the babies wouldn't get near us - we met up with our friends James and Laura and headed to Claytor Lake where we then met up with Shep, one of Bud's (now former!) professor's. Trying to plunk out some description of how fun the sailing trip was would inevitably make it sound lame. But it was, so fun. We sailed and swam and ate bratwurst with a side of beans Bud made. Then, slightly giddy from one too many cold ones, we swam again, this time looping life jackets through our legs so we bobbed around the water as if sitting on floating seats. Later, after we got home, I couldn't get a funny story from earlier, out of my head. One of those stories that repeated really isn't all that amusing, but as I re-played it in my mind I laughed until I started choking and had to sit up and catch my breath. One of those days.
