Training

Last weekend when we were in Northern Virginia, Bud and I went into a dog bakery in Old Town. Eight dollars for a half pound of dog treats sounds like a lot of money but when I got inside, I just couldn’t help it. Cheddar flavored dog treats in the shape of little bones, vanilla crème cookies that actually taste human-good, ginger snaps and on and on. And you can pick a little of this, a little of that – like an old fashioned drug store or something.

I’ve been using the treats to try and train Sadie to sit. I put the treats in a cup on the table next to the front door and when I get home I have her sit and stay and then she gets a treat. She likes them so much that she won’t stop running to the throw rug in front of the door, sitting and then looking at me expectantly. It’s terribly cute so I usually give in and praise her and give her a treat even though I haven’t technically asked her to do anything. Here is a picture of her waiting for me to do what I'm supposed to.
